The Wicklow Mountains are a Mecca for hill walkers and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world and, with its proximity to Dublin City, the uplands are the perfect retreat from busy urban life
This area is a hub of recreational activity and outdoor adventure but the associated pressures on the countryside must be managed carefully to ensure that recreation does not impact negatively on the environment.
Wicklow Uplands Council provides a valuable forum for the diverse interests in the Wicklow mountains area. The understanding that has developed between landowners and recreational users on the Council has helped to prevent and defuse some of the problemes that can arise from recreation activity on private land – Helen Lawless, Mountaineering Ireland
Participating on the board of the Council, I feel informed on national and local issues that have the potential to affect us locally – Pearse Connolly, Mountaineering Ireland
