At the heart of the mountains lie the remains of the ancient monastic city of Glendalough which is one of the most frequented tourist attractions in Ireland
The area is also home to the Wicklow Mountains National Park which encompasses over 20,000 hectares of land radiating from its centre at Glendalough. It is also home to ‘the Wicklow Way’ Ireland’s first long distance walking route which traverses the county from north to south and is the mainstay of many small tourism providers and B&Bs enroute.
As someone who has been lucky enough to live in the Wicklow Uplands all my life, I hope to play a part in helping more people enjoy our wonderful county in a way that brings benefit to both our visitors whether national or international, and our local businesses. – Dairine Nuttall, Wicklow Nordic Walking
