The Avonmore Way
The Avonmore Way is a new walking route which follows a mixture of minor road and forest tracks and trails. Beginning in Trooperstown car park the route ascends through woodland before skirting around Trooperstown Hill. From this vantage point beautiful vistas of the Glenealo and Glenmacnass valleys and surrounding mountains open up. As the trail continues it follows quiet roadside before entering back into woodlands and descends to the valley floor at the picturesque settlement of Claravale. The route then enters the Claravale Nature Reserve and passes through the mature oak woods beside the Avonmore River before finishing at Stump of the Castle forest entrance.
The 12km route is well marked with the yellow walking man on a background. It is suitable for anyone of reasonable fitness.
